Last Sunday’s county match against Essex ended in a convincing win for the visitors in both senior and junior matches, due largely to below par performances by the County’s recurve archers.  The team and individual scores can be downloaded in pdf format using the links below:

In stark contrast to the Hampshire match in April, the shoot was blessed with near-perfect conditions for archery throughout most of the day with not a single fleece and barely a beanie in sight.

Congratulations to the Essex team and thanks to the judges, Keith and Gwen Mills.

Thanks also to Crawley AC who hosted the match at their new ground.

Liz Bowyer managed to retain her SCAS Ladies Recurve Title against a strong potential challenge from Barbara Williams of Stortford, in the process raising the Sussex Record for the 2-way Single Clout by 18 points to 100. Russ French took the 3rd-place medal in the Gents Recurve section.

The Martlets Guild is the coaching arm of SCAA and delivers coaching and coach training principally for Sussex Archers.

A Level 1 coach course has now been registered and there is still space on the course if you are interested.

The course runs over a three-month period on four separate dates followed by two assessments. The first date is planned for September and the assessments around January/February time.

Venue for the course is Copthorne, near Crawley.

The course is run at cost (non-profit) and is £120 per person.

A free Flash based program is now available to download for your PC (archery-calculator).

The calculator will:

• convert from True Draw Length to the AMO standard Draw Length and back, in cm and inches
• convert grains to grams to ounces and Troy ounces in any order
• calculate the let-off percentage of a compound
• calculate the Forward of Centre (FoC) of an arrow
