I believe that the need for 12 dozen rounds should stay as this is an indicator of match-endurance; however, we should adopt a system where an archer wishing to be considered for selection at a given shoot submits the scores of their choice from the previous 12 months up to, but not including, the previous event of the same. That is to say scores from the day AFTER the same event the preceeding year.

A minimum of three scores to be submitted, ONE of which may be a FITA 70m and ALL of which from open tournaments, ONE of which must be out of County.

This is similar to the selection system for the EAF, of which we, as members of SCAS, belong and ensures that we see archers capable of shooting 12 dozen rounds under tournament conditions but makes allowances for accessibility.

It would be the archer’s responsibility to check, or have someone check, this website for submission cut-off dates and to download/fill-in/submit the respective form.

At the end of the day we need archers that are prepared to extend themselves competitively and are driven enough to demonstrate that they actually want to represent their County.

Can we not also add 6 Doz Fita Rounds (Like the Fita 720) – especially as Sussex is putting on a tournament involving them this year. This would bring us into line with the criteria for National Ranking – you have to have a number of 720 + head To Head rounds to qualify, so why not encourage people to shoot them!

Nice idea but with a fundamental flaw: there simply aren’t enough 12 dozen round tournaments within reasonable travelling distance of most Sussex archers to make this is a worthwhile exercise. Given that the AGM was told that scores for shorter rounds could still be submitted for consideration by the team selectors, why not add these to the rankings?

And surely the position achieved in a tournament should be taken into consideration as well? 1,000 for a recurve archer shooting a York in cold, wet and windy conditions might be more commendable as 1,150 on a fine Summer’s day.

As for converting Imperial round scores to their FITA equivalents based on the handicap tables… hey ho!
