Chairman’s April Exec Com Digest

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Following the EGM on 30th March the committee met on 11th April to discuss a number of pressing items. I was pleased to be able to welcome a number of new members to the committee, which is now almost at full strength, and wish them a successful year in office.

One of our first duties was to co-opt Maggie Burford as County Junior Representative. She will liaise with Terry White, the County Junior Team Manger, to provide projects that will raise the profile of the Junior Team and county junior archery in general.

Final arrangements were put in place for the organisation of the first county match of the year. This was against Hampshire and held at the Crawley Archery Club grounds on 17th April and, for the first time that I can remember, was Record Status. Although we did not win on this occasion, there were a large number of Rose Award and county record claims and the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved.

See the report from Doreen Cannon, the Senior Team Manager, for full details.

I would like to add my thanks to that of Doreen to the small work party who put in so much effort to ensure that the match was successful. Well done, you were magnificent.

We have another match against Essex on 26th June. I wish all our archers good shooting and look forward to a win this time.

At the beginning of the year it was looking as if we would not be able to hold the County Championships as we were not able to fill the position of Tournament Organiser. I am delighted to be able to announce that Maggie Burford has agreed to take on this task and the Championship Weekend will be held on 9th & 10th July. I wish Maggie every success in this venture and ask that as many of our members as possible will be able to provide help over the weekend to ensure that our premier event is a great success.

Briefly, other items discussed included the SCAS/SCAA Indoor championships next year at the K2, the 200 Club, (please consider joining if you are not already a member), the Albion League, the publishing of county records and certificates, the ranking system and the provision of storage for the county’s equipment. There will be more news on these items as we progress.

Finally, I wish you all a good season & look forward to meeting you around the county.

Terry Maskell.

New County Executive begins work

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

Following the Sussex County A.A. Annual General Meeting in January, an Extraordinary General Meeting was held on 30th March to elect a new Chairman from the two candidates and to confirm four new committee positions. The results were:
Chairman: Mr.T.Maskell
Treasurer: Mr.G.Stevens
League Secretary: Mr.P.Damon
Records Officer: Mrs.M.Lake
Committee member: Mr.R.Darling
(responsible for 200 Club, and rankings.)
Mrs.M.Burford agreed to be co-opted as Junior Representative on the Executive Committee, which was ratified at the first Executive meeting on Monday 11th April.
Since the AGM, when the future of the Executive looked in doubt, the Committee has been strengthened by six new volunteers, and nearly all the vital posts seem to be covered.

At its first meeting on Monday the new Committee got straight down to business and dealt with most of the outstanding issues that needed to be resolved before the Outdoor Season. A number of new ideas were considered. Look out for the Chairman’s Digest that should be ready soon after the inter-County match with Hampshire this coming weekend.

In the meantime here is a link to a full list of all County Records set since last year courtesy our new Records Officer

New arrival

Monday, December 27th, 2010

Congratulations to the County Treasurer, Justin Ross, on becoming a father for the first time.

Baby Edie arrived a couple of days before Christmas and, we are informed, is behaving herself impeccably.  Justin’s partner was unavailable to report on his behaviour.

Best wishes to all three of you.

Sussex Championships records

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Thanks to Rod Brown of Arundown AC for supplying results from the County Championships for the years 2000 – 2005. These can now be accessed from the Sussex Archery Tournaments page.

We are hoping to archive the results of past Championships – both indoor and outdoor – on this website. If you have the results – in full or even just a list of winners – from the Sussex Championships for 2006, 2007 or any years before 2000, please forward them to the website administrator.

On a similar note, it would be nice to create a record of representative honours awarded to Sussex archers. If that includes you or you know of an archer from Sussex who has represented Great Britain or one of the Home Nations at an international competition, please forward the details to the website administrator.

Sussex Archery

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Welcome to the official website of the Sussex County Archery Association.

We hope that Sussex archery clubs, their members and fellow archers in neighbouring counties find the information on the site useful and informative.  We also hope that you will contribute to the site by posting information on your club’s activities – open tournaments, club shoots, individual achievements, coaching, change of officers, etc, etc – to the site.

How do you post? First, set up an account by clicking the Register link close to the top of the sidebar on the right hand side of your screen.  Registering won’t take more than a few minutes, following which you can Log in (you’ll find the Log in link beneath the Register link).  When you’ve done that, click Write at the top left of your screen and then, well, write:-)  You’ll find some more user instructions here.

Someone somewhere has read that last paragraph and thought “I don’t have much in the way of PC skills. What if I do something and break the  site?”  At the risk of tempting Dr Sod to enter stage left, that’s very unlikely; but, in any case, we’ve set up a demo site for people to practise with (think of it as the cyber equivalent of two ends of sighters).

A gallery script, enabling you to upload photos, will be available to use in early December.

That’s probably enough to get people started, so it’s over to you.  The site will thrive or suffer a demise depending on whether or not it is updated regularly so, if you are a Sussex archer, get posting!
