Essex triumphs over Sussex

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Last Sunday’s county match against Essex ended in a convincing win for the visitors in both senior and junior matches, due largely to below par performances by the County’s recurve archers.  The team and individual scores can be downloaded in pdf format using the links below:

In stark contrast to the Hampshire match in April, the shoot was blessed with near-perfect conditions for archery throughout most of the day with not a single fleece and barely a beanie in sight.

Congratulations to the Essex team and thanks to the judges, Keith and Gwen Mills.

Thanks also to Crawley AC who hosted the match at their new ground.

Narrow win for Sussex against Hampshire

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Sussex secured narrow victories in both senior and junior matches against Hampshire on 19th April.

The senior team won by 18,197 to Hampshire’s 18,074, while the junior team score of 10,162 was just enough to beat Hampshire’s 9,966.  Individual scores and a full breakdown of the team results can be viewed using the following links:

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to Sussex’s second consecutive victory against our neighbours on a bitterly cold day,as shown by the number of fleeces and beanies on view in the team photograph.

Thanks to the judges, Keith and Gwen Mills, for braving the weather.  Thanks also to the small team, led by Andrew Holdsworth, who marked up the field for the shoot and acted as field crew on the day.

County Match Sussex v Hampshire 19th April

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

A County match against Hampshire will be held at Falmer High School on the 19th April 2009.

Spectators are welcome and if you need directions here they are:

Coming from the West on the A27

Take the exit for the B2123 at Sussex University and take the signs to the A27 back to Brighton (you are almost doing a U-turn). After about half a mile get into the left hand lane and take the A270 road to Brighton. 300 yards down this road you will see a Bus Stop. Turn left immediately before the Bus Stop – it should be signed with an archery sign – and take the single track under the railway bridge which will bring you straight into the ground.

If you miss this turning go straight on until the next traffic lights and take the first left immediately afterwards. This will be signposted to Falmer School through a housing estate. However, when you go under the bridge turn immediately left into Lucraft Road and go to the end of the road where the school entrance is.

How do I get to shoot for Sussex?

  • Ability to shoot well under difficult conditions
  • Good team Spirit
  • Loyalty to the County
  • Availability
  • Satisfying the selection criteria – SCAA Team Selection Criteria

Your Club Records Officer should send in your scores, but if he/she does not, the County Records Officer will be unable to advise the Selection Team of the best archers in the County. Archers can send in their own scores directly to the County Records Officer, subject to verification.

Expenses

Archers can claim expenses of 25p per mile, or 30p per mile if taking other team members, with a maximum of £35 per car. Archers who do not wish to claim expenses can claim and then donate to the County.

Team Clothing

County Polo shirts can be purchased when you have been selected to shoot for the County. These are available from the Senior and Junior Team captains.

Red fleeces are awarded when an archer has shot three times for the County.

Awards

If you are selected to shoot for the first time, you will receive a County Team flash.

If you shoot for the SCAS Intercounties team Championship for the first time you will be awarded a roundel; if you have shot before you will be awarded a bar with the year date at the AGM.

All archers who shoot for the County during the year will receive a Certificate at the AGM.
