After 9 Years – 2 UK Records at once at the K2

IndoorRecordBreakers

It’s no easy thing to set a new UK Indoor Record, and since 2009 over two thousand Rounds have been shot at the SCAS and Sussex Indoors Championships at Crawley’s K2 Centre, and until this year’s shoot on 5th May not a single UK record had been claimed. And then there were two, and the archers were on adjoining targets!

Kai Thomas-Prause showed that his phenomenal National Series performance last year was no flash in the pan, and shot a 593 Portsmouth to claim the Junior Compound Record. And Bryony Pitman came in as a late entrant with a new bow to try out before flying out to Vittel later in the day to take part in the European Indoor Championships. She didn’t need to worry, the bow performed like a dream and Bryony clocked up 595 points – and she went on to win a Bronze Medal in the Junior Ladies Team event at the Euros, and capped it by being ranked no 2 and winning the Silver Medal for the Junior Ladies Recurve class.

Only her second visit to a European 3-D Championships representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland with her Traditional set-up, and Michaela Lake brought home the Silver Medal from Slovenia.

Michaela Reports…

My aim for the week was to get into the top 16 as that would be respectable. I had taken a quite a few days of leave to train at South Wiltshire as they have a 3D course set up. My aim was to score 300 points per day for the 2 qualifying rounds to get into the final 16, and I had done this in practice on a few occasions so knew it was possible. (more…)

Sussex Archers in Rio

Monday, August 8th, 2016

OlympicsGavinFacingGary580pxlTwo Worthing Archery Club members on the world stage today – Gavin Sutherland (right), representing Zimbabwe, supported by his Coach (and former Field World Champion) Gary Kinghorn.
Gavin faced World and Olympic Record holder Woojin Kim of Korea at the Sambodromo in Rio in the first round Head-to-Head. Against such odds few, if any, archers in the world could go against the form-book, and Kim won of course. But Gavin tossed in enough Tens to show why he was there, and did his Nation proud.
