Carol Davies, a visually impaired archer, seized the opportunity to shoot for GB at the European Para-archery Championships in Saint Jean De Monts, France in April 2016. Carol is a member of Blind Veterans UK Bowmen in Ovingdean, and is currently coached and supported by two Sussex County Coaches.

Carol thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the tournament – including shooting against Steve Prowse the current world champion. Carol lost in the quarter-finals to the eventual bronze medallist Claudio Peruffo from Italy.

She described the tournament as “the experience of a lifetime” and would like to express her gratitude to SCAA for giving her a grant towards the cost of the trip.

and Gavin Sutherland has represented Zimbabwe at the All-Africa Championships held in Luxor, Egypt, taking second place in the Ranking Round and going on win the Silver for his country, and then winning Gold in the African Open International Tournament.

Two brilliant performances from young archers on an upward trajectory.

Sussex Field Archers represent GB

Tuesday, September 30th, 2014

Sx_Field_Internationals_2014

Three Sussex Field Archers have represented Great Britain during August and September.

Jamie Cole was selected to shoot Compound in the World Championships at Zagreb, Croatia. He successfully came through the Qualification Round, but did not progress beyond the Elimination Round, ending in 15th Place.

Michaela Lake was selected to represent GB in the European 3-D Championships at Tallin, Estonia,  shooting Instinctive, following a very successful Summer when she became both English and Irish Champion. A near-novice to 3-D she nevertheless ended in 11th place in Europe, just ten points below the cut.

Gary Cole was also selected for  the European 3-D Championships shooting Compound Unlimited, and after the 2-day Qualification rounds was very well placed at 5th. But in the 12-arrow elimination round very poor light at three of the targets meant he was unable to see the target well enough in the sight scope he  was using and ended up with nine points less that he needed to make the cut for the finals, enough to drop to 15th place.

Not only is Sussex proud because these archers were selected, they all also made it to the Elimination Rounds, and were only points away from the next round.

Not just the Juniors…
